Our story

For over a century, the Wood family has been cultivating premium apples in the fertile soils of Motueka. Discover how our multi-generational dedication, hands-on passion, and unwavering standards shape every harvest across our orchards.

Over a century of orchard tradition

The Wood family story began in 1921 when Ashton Wood’s grandfather immigrated from the UK and planted their first orchard in Waiwhero, Tasman.

Over generations, the trade was handed down with pride.

Ashton took the reins from his father and, alongside his wife, Anna, expanded the enterprise into what A B WOOD HOLDINGS is today.

Now, their eldest son Donovan works right beside Ashton, proudly carrying this legacy into its fourth generation across approximately 70 hectares of productive land in Lower Moutere, Motueka.

A life’s work built on family dedication

This orchard is far more than just a business; it represents generations of the Wood family’s work.

Ashton and Donovan are the driving force behind every season, taking a hands-on approach to the day-to-day running of the orchard.

Their generations of experience, knowledge of the trees, and understanding of Motueka’s growing conditions help guide the orchard through every season and produce the premium fruit A B WOOD HOLDINGS is known for.

High standards, pride, and genuine effort

What has sustained us for more than 100 years is a relentless belief in hard work, family values, and doing things properly.

Orchard work is demanding and certainly not for someone seeking an easy ride.

We hold high expectations because we take immense pride in what we harvest.

We look for individuals who bring genuine care, grit, and enthusiasm to our seasonal team.

"Hard work, immense care, and pride in every harvest. This orchard is our life's work, passed down through four generations in Motueka."
